Yes a ute is a type of 'pick up' truck I think you call it, but not as large.
This is the typical 'farm' version (also called a "one tonner (as in the amount of load it can take) :

And this is the dressed up version but still found and used on farms, but often not until they're older/more beaten up!:

Ah yes, McLeods Daughters is a popular show! Although I live on a farm there aren't that many horses here (we tend to ride quad bikes) and definitely not that many wonderfully looking women and men in one spot!!! LOL.
