What is your blog name?: An Asian American Mom in New York City Blogs About Educating Her Child Using Asian Principles

Share a little something about yourself with other moms.: I was born in Taiwan but consider myself a New Yorker because I have lived in NY for most of my life. When I came to the U.S. at age 8, I did not speak any English at all, but within two years, I was in the honors class in my elementary school. A few years later, I was able to pass the very difficult Stuyvesant High School exam. I believe mastering reading comprehension is the key to success in school and the business world. Thus, I started to teach my daughter how to read with Hooked on Phonics and Dr. Seuss books before she started Kindergarten. It seems to me that Asian immigrant parents have different values than American parents, and this is why Asian immigrant kids are often more driven and successful than their non-immigrant counterparts. I hope to apply the principles of discipline I have learned from my Asian parents to the parenting and upbringing of my child. I am proud to be a PushyMama.
