Ok, so on Saturday I had the opportunity to be a judge at the Inland Northwest Qualifier (3 States were represented) for the National Christian Forensics & Communications Association (NCFCA). Since both of my…Continue

The morning was hectic; we were running late. We had finally pulled into the parking lot of the elementary school when I looked down at my son's feet, clad in clunky snow boots.
"Your shoes are in your backpack, right?" I said.
"Ummmm," he answered. I sighed. He had forgotten them. Again. The shoes I had put right by the front door were probably still right there. Why couldn't he remember?!
"Sean!" I said sharply. "C'mon! You need to work on…Continue

I was pretty happy after I sat back and looked at my family photo wall, so I decided to blog about it. My friends seem to ask me for tips all the time on the subject, and my friend Jenny and I are known for rearranging photo walls at our mutual friend’s homes.
If you want to see more, I’ve blogged about How To Arrange Art and I also did a post on a…

It's so hard to believe that this month celebrates THREE awesome years of writing my little Nucking Futs Mama blog. This right here is my 642nd published post, y'all! Holy crap, that's a lot of rambling, isn't it??!
And since there's no red carpet roll-out or awards show ceremony to commemorate this monumental occasion (*snark*),…Continue

I get my drugs where I shop. It's easy to drop off the prescription, get my groceries, and go. Everyone at our grocery store knows Z, so they usually expedite my order making it a fast and easy process.
A few days over a month ago, I told you about how I am all old and infertile. The doctor gave me a handy-dandy prescription to get things…

We've all had a conversation with THAT mom at one time or another. The one who can't talk to you like a normal human being because she's so busy telling you how talented and smart and perfect her child is and "don't you think he's amazing?"

As you all know we are trying to live fast food free and it is doing wonders for our energy level as well as our waistlines and our bank accounts! For years I've had a cookbook sitting on my counter looking all pretty and decorative because, really, who needs cookbooks these days anyways? I mean all the convenient food options we have why do we need to cook from scratch? Before we started this journey I had cooked very few things from scratch and when I did I measured everything so…Continue

A little boy got hurt at my daughter's hockey game on Saturday. It wasn't serious, but it did cause a stoppage of play during the game. My daughter's coaches have taught her team that when someone is hurt on the ice, they need to "take a knee." They all drop to one knee and wait for the coaches and referees to tend to the injured child.
Taking a knee has two purposes. It gets the kids out of the way of the adults who are trying to help the injured child, and it keeps the kids from…Continue

I took on a volunteer position with one of my kids' schools this year and have been doing a pretty good job (if I say so myself).
Then I got sick. That was three weeks ago and I'm just now working on getting rid of my second (or is this one my third?) sickness. I hesitate to say "cold" too loudly because if it hears me, it might come running and lick me on the mouth. Again.

My husband turns mean and defensive when people say things to him like, "Oh can I hold baby? Is it okay with her mother?" or "Can you ask your wife if I can give her a cookie?"
"I'm her father! Why can't you ask me?" he'll demand, face beat red and nostrils flaring. He can't understand why he's never looked at as the one in charge or responsible for making decisions on our daughter's behalf. I always try to remind him that this new gender role reversal is a culture…

As you may know, I have been on a Facebook fast for the last 20 days. And while my blog posts have been showing up there on the regular, that is due to nifty little tricks that my blogging friends and I call auto-posting. It's pretty awesome.
At any rate, I think I may be done with Facebook. I have found that anytime I remember anything about Facebook all I hear is the chatter of my 200 some "friends" in my ears. And sometimes it is just too much to try to…

After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out to dinner and a movie. She said, “I love you, but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you.”
The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally. That night I called to invite…Continue
