To end National Nutrition Month, I had to do a post on a fruit close to my heart:
APPLES!!

At a very young age, I learned about apples from my Grandmother. In fact, before it gained name and fame as a brand of computer, McIntosh (notice the spelling…

A friend of mine wrote a guest post on my Stapleton moms blog. She sent it to her former co-workers at CNN, saying, "I'm famous!" and they replied: You used to work with Wolf Blitzer, and
now you think you're famous?
She's a stay at home mom to her 2 year old. She obviously had a career that many women would kill for. She also knew that it wasn't the kind of career that mixed with raising a child the way she wanted to, so she gave it up.
Lots of us…

Just when you think you're getting the hang of this "being a mom" thing, something comes along and knocks the wind out of you so bad, you think to yourself, should I really be allowed to do this parenting stuff at all? Shouldn't I have taken some sort of classes first? Some sort of pre-screening evaluations? Or at the very least some genetic-type blood testing to see if I was even eligible for such a big task? Receiving an "F" in a course like How to Console Your Child Properly may have played…

We cultivate our kids like any good farmers. We sprinkle them with fertilizer, encourage them with daily doses of water, and take pride in their growth. We happily rejoice when their corn stalk reaches 5' and we dutifully mark it on a piece of kitchen molding, which is now hanging in the broom closet because we remodeled.
We work at it. We try hard. We even like it sometimes.
That way, in the event my 7-year-old daughter gets off the bus and complains of a sore throat, we…

The Busy Mom Diet: Is this You?
This is the true story of One Busy Mom and her quest to gain control over her "diet" and her body. She was initially unable to see a solution, to see where she had lost control - after sharing her story the light bulb flipped on.
Up at 5 AM - no sleeping in with kids (someone always needs something!)
Coffee - I need at least 2-3 cups to get my day going and NEED the cream and sugar so it tastes good.
Breakfast #1: a…

Being responsible for your actions is the cornerstone of life. Starting at an early age, we are held to certain standards to “grow up.” How many of you remember a childhood incident that you will never forget because you did or didn’t do something that your parents, teacher, or friend may have been disappointed in you?
Common negative traits, albeit frequently unwarranted, are feelings of shame, humiliation, or…

When researching the top things mothers consider when picking their childs school, I came up with two equally popular subjects. Is it a school full of druggies? Is it a school full of knocked up girls? Lets start with Drugs. Parents of public schooled children didn't want there kids attending a school with a history of drug related activity. Parents of home schooled children believe they are preventing there kids from being a crack addict.
Statistically drugs are a bigger problem…

Here is a little background on Bella. She has always been shy, a loner, teachers pet and has such determination in life you almost want to bottle it and sell it. Recently in the 6th grade she has turned into quite the chit-chatterer and social butterfly. She went from just 1 best friend for years to having a busier social calendar than I have. The girl actually took my cell phone and when the other line beeped and it was for me, she asked if I could call them back because she was on an…

Sorry the posts have been scanty lately. I am personally dealing with a dilemma in life, proving once again the job of a mother is never ending. Bella is entering middle school next year. The joyous 7th grade. Normally you just pre-enroll your kid in the district chosen school. Unfortunately my life never goes according to plan. My kid is a smarty pants. She is a consistent straight A student and at the end of the 5th grade got tested and put into the “gifted and talented” program. I do live in…

I want to write about giving and receiving. I am starting a journey to discover what I will receive from giving away my clutter and blessing others (yes flylady, I am a flybaby).
Well I would like to start with a little recap of my last few years that has led me to this point.
I met the man of my dreams, my dear husband, we got married in Ocotber 2001. I moved into his home and at the time I was a twenty year old in college and had few…

We just returned home from another trip. Some may call us jet-setty. I call us dumb and tired as hell. This particular trip was a brief jaunt down into the heartland of America. It was my aunt's 60th birthday and 10 brave family members caravanned to Omaha, NE for a weekend of drinking, debauchery, and money loss so extreme it may take years to repair the damage.
My aunt and uncle have been living in Omaha now for 15 years. They moved there after landing a job on the mainland after…

Potty training 101 was last year with our first son that does NOT deal well with or want change. Now that wasn't a party! My partner and I are still laughing at and scarred from that little parenting experience. Good times! So I guess this time around does make this 102.
So now it's time for our 2 1/2 year old. He has shown every single sign possible. He's very text book and is ready to go whether we are or not. He takes his diaper off at every opportunity. Pretty! Especially when I…

You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and....
You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?
You had me several years…

3 is the answer. At least in my mini-van or otherwise known the cheerio mobile.
Carly Simon/You're So Vain: "I had some dreams there were clouds in my coffee, clouds in my coffee and"......okay, we all know the words by now!
3 year old: "There were clowns in my coffee" Mommy, why does she have clowns in her coffee?
Me: Not enough coffee in me, with or without clowns. "Gosh honey I just don't know. We'll have to ask mom about that when she gets home tomorrow,…
