How To Improve Your Sanity During the Covid Crisis

It’s unbelievable. While it seemed that life was about to finally get back to normal with the gradual opening of states, all of a sudden an uptick in COVID-19 cases has hit the country like a tidal wave. While many governors have vowed not to completely shut down states again many are still not fully opened. And, to…

Three Start-Ups to Consider After the Covid Crisis

If your job is in flux and you are not sure if you will even be employed when the COVID-19 crisis is finally over it might be time to start thinking about being a part of a start-up. To be sure, becoming an entrepreneur during a time when everything is uncertain might not be the best time to begin a business. Sometimes,…

The Subtle Art of Moving During the Holidays

We already know that the holidays while fun can also be one of the most stressful times of the year. There are decorations that need to be hung, relatives to host, presents to buy, food to prepare and ultimately expectations to uphold. Add all of that to moving and you just might lose your mind. Never fear,…

My First Chapter Stinks

I have a fabulous writer's group. I wouldn't be able to write without them

The comments they had about my first draft of my first chapter were basically, it stunk.

They didn't say it in those particular words. They're extremely knowledgeable about writing and they're really nice people. Instead, they used phrases like, don't tell, show. Or, think about the story arc. Honest hints that I need to start my chapter over. And they are right.

I keep in mind what writer Meg Wolister…

Talk to the fist, 'cause the hand won't listen!

The other day, when I asked my six-year-old to go brush her teeth, she told me to, talk to her fist!

Every day is a new opportunity for her to wield her impetuous powers... And wield she does. From the time she calls room service to…

The Aftermath

I cannot be the only one...who thinks the corporations that thought it was a good idea to make the day after Thanksgiving, the one day of the year that is synonymous with eating and drinking too much, the same day as the biggest shopping day of the year, are a group of evil masterminds. While thinking about these wicked geniuses I envisioned the consumer prepping for their Black Friday, I imagined it went something like this:…

Things I've Learned This Week

** It's not a road trip in our family unless it ends with a souvenir bag of puke.

** Thanksgiving without a nap is like Christmas without a Santa.

** You never…

Make Your Thanksgiving a Memorable One With a New Born

The holidays are coming up and nothing could be better than expanding your family just before Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time when families come together and celebrate everything they are thankful for in their lives. A new baby could be one of the many things to be thankful for this holiday season.

Remember to be prepared for your new baby this Thanksgiving. Dress him or her in layers so that he or she will be able to easily change body temperatures when you move your new baby…

I'm thankful that it's OVER!

The best Thanksgiving I ever had was back in the early 90's when I lived alone. My apartment was on the top floor in a Southern version of 90210. Everyone…

Will the person who invented technology please take it away from my MOM?!

Whose idea was it to create a multi functional, portable device that could easily slide into the back pocket of your most ill fitting jeans? Probably the same asshole that gave one to your mother! It took my mom a few years to grasp the concept of technology; but then one day she took a big ole bite out of Apple–and things have never been the same.

Brring! Brring! Pick up the phone... It's your…

The Obligatory Thankful List

I cannot be the only one...who feels obligated to have a list that shows all my gratitude ready at a moments notice to share with those around me on Thanksgiving.  Please don't misinterpret my sense of obligation with being ungrateful, I am very, very thankful for the many people and the things in my life, I am just not fond of an on the spot listing of those things (sometimes in front of a decent sized audience). To prepare myself for this spotlight on Thanksgiving I decided to put together…

Rock, Paper, Scissor Parenting

Ok, yeah, I'll admit that my husband and I may have rock, paper, scissored our way through some of more undesirable aspects of parenting our twins.  (I'm pretty sure we're not the only ones who do this either.)  Because, sometimes, it just doesn't really make sense for BOTH of us to jump into a crappy situation.  For…

Don't co-sleep (with your husband)

We've all seen those old television sitcoms (or at the very least, Fred and Wilma Flintstone) where the husband and wife are sleeping in separate beds. This mostly had to do with The Production Code of 1930 (also known also as the Hays Code), which, among other things, forbid showing a married couple with a double bed. Here's…

DIY Thanksgiving Key Chain: Preschooler

Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Color: Polished Thumbs Up?

I cannot be the only one...who is inspired by the colors associated with the holidays; rich oranges, sparkling reds, and many a hue of green. In an attempt to show a little of that cheer, I decided to use my finger nails to express my love of the holiday color palette.  I am not talking about creating small versions of the infamous Christmas sweater on my nails, no small…

Nice easy roast chicken tacos

Chicken tacos are a family meal favourite at our house, the children just love choosing all their own fillings and creating their own taco just the way they like it. I use chicken thighs to make this meal - covering them with a spice mix and roasting them in the oven before shredding the meat, I prefer the thigh meat it’s just so much…
