New Year’s Resolutions That Will Transform Your Life

I’ve never been one for New Year’s Resolutions.  It always seems like you’re forced to find something to change and, quite frankly, they never seem to last for anyone.  But as I was taking a walk this morning, I started thinking about the things I’ve done this past year that have gotten me to a place of happiness and peace.   While they weren’t necessarily resolutions, more like revelations, making these changes have transformed my life.

Eliminate the word “should” – “Shoulds” are self-imposed rules that leave us feeling guilty, inadequate and stressed.  Usually, no one else is saying these “shoulds” to us.   It’s merely an inner dialogue and the only “should” that is appropriate is that you “should” be happy.

Constantly re-invent yourself – There’s an old phrase, “Variety is the spice of life.” Not only does change help invigorate you, but it’s a proven fact that learning something new can help reduce the risk of depression, memory loss and confusion as we get older.  Whether it’s finding a new hobby, taking a course at a local college, trying out a new sport or even starting your own business, leaving yourself open to new adventures will make you happier and bring a new dimension to your relationships.

Practice Law of Attraction – This is the single most important change I’ve made this past year.   As soon as I stopped focusing on the lack, abundance slowly started entering my life.  When I learned to turn my attention to happiness and love, angry people started disappearing.  Seemingly random circumstances and chance encounters that are producing amazing results in my life are, in actuality, Law of Attraction at work.

Learn to accept others as they are – Whether it’s a friend, adult child or significant other, they won’t always have the same beliefs as you and will make choices that you don’t agree with.  The frustration we feel in these situations is, in reality, a reflection of our own insecurity or fear.  Allow people to be who they are and either accept them or lovingly release them from your life.

Be kind to yourself – We have so many people on our list to care for that we often don’t even make it onto the list.  Every day, do one thing that will make you happy.  It doesn’t have to be big – it could be as simple as reading 10 pages of a trashy novel or eating a dark chocolate truffle.  It also means loving who you are, just as you are.  It sounds silly and can take a while to get used to, but make a list of affirmations and say them to yourself in the mirror on a daily basis.  They can include:

I love and appreciate myself just as I am

Everything I need is already within me

Abundance flows to me effortlessly

My life is blossoming in total perfection

I am a radiant being filled with light and love

Transformation doesn’t happen overnight and resolutions will be broken.  But perseverance and patience will ultimately lead you to an incredibly happy and peaceful life.
