5 Simple Ways to Stay Comfortable While Pregnant

Picture: Juan Encalada

Pregnancy and childbirth are magical, and many women cherish the experience of carrying their children for nine months. However, as much as you might enjoy pregnancy, there’s no denying that it can also be uncomfortable with various side effects that impact your daily life. If you’re struggling to stay comfortable as your pregnancy progresses, you might find relief in doing some of the following things.

Wearing Comfortable Maternity Clothing

As your stomach grows, your wardrobe often becomes less suitable for daily wear. Purchasing maternity clothing from clothing businesses like Dainty Jewells might be how you remain stylish but comfortable at the same time.

Maternity clothing can provide expectant mothers with a range of benefits, such as comfort, space for a growing baby, breathability, and flexibility. There are many options to choose from, and most provide additional stomach room while remaining flattering and stylish to boost your confidence

Elevating Your Feet

With so much to do in the lead-up to your baby being born, resting and elevating your feet is the last thing you might feel like doing. However, keeping your feet and legs elevated might be how you combat the swelling that many pregnant women experience.

Circulation and blood flow can sometimes be affected as your stomach grows and your weight increases. You might not be able to prevent it, but leg and foot elevation might increase your comfort levels.

Staying Hydrated

Staying hydrated is essential whether you’re pregnant or not, but it can be even more so when you need to take care of kidney and liver function for both you and your baby and prevent the uncomfortable side effects associated with dehydration.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends 8-12 cups or 64-96 ounces of water per day to aid digestion, form amniotic fluid around the fetus, help circulate nutrients, and encourage waste to leave the body. You might also like to drink fluids between meals rather than with them to avoid heartburn.

Practicing Self Care

It’s only natural to be overwhelmed while your body undergoes a variety of changes you possibly weren’t expecting. Be kind to yourself and give yourself permission to slow down, do things you enjoy, and look after your body. Take warm bubble baths, lay in bed and read a book, and treat yourself to manicures and pedicures. The months before childbirth are a period of change, and that can sometimes mean your outlook on life and expectations change with it.

Exercising might be the last thing you feel like doing while you’re experiencing aches and pains in your muscles, joints, and bones. However, low-impact exercises might decrease that pain and help you feel at your best.

Your doctor might recommend a range of different exercises, such as swimming, walking, and pregnancy-specific yoga or Pilates classes. Listen to your body and avoid pushing yourself, but don’t underestimate the value of keeping moving to increase your comfort.

Staying comfortable while pregnant can be challenging, especially while you’re learning how to carry extra weight. By doing some of these things above, you might be better positioned to stay as comfortable as possible while you wait to welcome your bundle of joy into the world.
