Your front yard is the first part of your home that people see. The garden and porch should not only be a friendly façade for guests but also reflect your personal style. They say first impressions are – the same is true about your home. It may sound like a tall order, but there are some simple ways to make this project easy and enjoyable.
1. Emulate Your Home’s Exterior Style
If you really don’t know where to start when it comes to decorating your front your front yard, just take a look at what’s in front of you. You don’t have to think outside of the box; you can simple emulate the look of your home’s façade.
Whether you have a Victorian home, a Colonial or a ranch, there is a distinct architectural style there that can serve as a jumping off point. You’ll certainly be able to find all sorts of accessories and accents to go along with each individual style, making it easy for you to pick out new décor.
2. Accents, Accents, Accents
We can stress this enough – accessorise your front yard! It takes more than a table and some chairs to create an attracting and welcoming entryway to your home. Think about wreaths, vases, throw pillows, and knick-knacks for your porch, while you can place stones, figurines and fountains in your garden. You might even want to replace your mailbox, as this small accent can really change the look of your yard.
You can find suitable accessories just about everywhere. While home and garden stores are the most obvious place to find accents to suit your home, thrift shops and flea markets will provide you with some fantastic one-of-kind items.
Repurposing old objects is another way to add some uniqueness to your front yard, if that’s the look you’re going for. You can use old beer cans, rusted wagons, and even a pair of gardening boots as planters!
3. Keep Furniture in Line with Your Overall Scheme
While it might be tempting to invest in some simple, all-weather tables and chairs, you can get a more cohesive look for your front yard if you look for furniture that suits your overall style. If you’re thinking of buying tiki accessories, go ahead and purchase some wicker furniture. If you have some shabby chic accents, head to the thrift store and upcycle some benches. And don't forget about your home's mailbox too.
4. Don’t Be Afraid of Plants
When you hear the term “gardening”, it sounds like a daunting prospect, but it doesn’t have to be. You can add plenty of life to your front yard by purchasing lush plants for your garden, and there’s no need for it to be a difficult task.
There are plenty of plants that are very easy to care for. You don’t have to worry much about sunlight, heat, water or shade when you put these plants in your front yard:
5. Add Some Lights
There are few things that make your front yard look as whimsical and welcoming than when it is lit up at night. So, have a look for different types of lighting that will suit the look of your garden. You don’t have to go all out and purchase large lanterns and lamp posts; there are plenty of smaller, more cost-effective options, like outdoor string lights and solar pathway lights.
Your front yard can be a thing of beauty; all it takes is some imagination. Adding new décor to your front yard really brightens up your home and makes a statement about where you live to all of your visitors and neighbours.
