6 Unexpected Benefits of Rearranging Your Bedroom

There are so many things that can stand in the way of getting a good night’s rest. And you might not even realize that your bedroom layout plays a role.

Have you ever heard of Feng Shui?

This ancient art is based on the principle that we’re all affected by the energy that flows through a space. When things are properly arranged, positive energy is free to flow where you need it most.

When the room is more haphazard, energy stagnates, and you may start experiencing adverse outcomes.

This is one reason why it’s a good idea to take a look at the layout of your room – but there are other, more practical reasons to try to make the most of your space.

So if you’ve just binged on Tidying Up on Netflix, get ready to clear the clutter and create a bedroom that sparks joy.

Here are 6 unexpected benefits of rearranging your bedroom:

1. Your room gets a deep clean

If you’re like most of us, the only time you clean underneath heavy furniture is during a move, renovation or just a good old-fashioned rearranging. So, although you probably aren’t thinking of this as a benefit (who really wants to clean more), cleaning the clutter can have mental benefits. Don’t you just feel better when you know that every inch of your space is fresh and clean?

2. It’s an opportunity to clear the clutter

Even if you’re among those who like to hold onto things for sentimental value, you can probably appreciate the free feelings that go along with a good purge. It’s as if a piece of our attention and focus was tied to that item we kept laying around (for no good reason). And when it’s gone, it almost feels like a weight has been lifted. Just think about how you feel when you look at a massive pile of papers compared with the feeling of looking at an organized stack of folders. Part of the feeling comes with knowing that everything is in its proper place, and there isn’t any “extra stuff” crowding out what’s important.

3. Shine new light on areas you haven’t seen

With this comes a bit of a spiritual element of seeing your space as brand new, but there’s also a very literal component to it. When you move furniture, you allow the flooring beneath to see the sunlight, which can help prevent your flooring from fading unevenly.

4. You’re introduced to the unexpected

If you’ve ever rearranged a room before, you know where this is going. It’s almost as if you forget that you rearranged your room. So, every time you return, it’s like you’re seeing that room again for the first time. This experience is akin to getting out of your comfort zone, but on a smaller scale. When your space always looks the same, you can easily drift into autopilot mode. And as helpful as autopilot mode can be, it’s quite damaging for your creativity.

5. Feng shui your space

Now that we’re getting into the nitty-gritty of redesigning your space, you can create a room where energy flows freely and allows for the ultimate creativity and positivity.

If nothing else, this will help change your outlook.

Here are a few tips for Feng Shuing your bedroom:

  • Upgrade your bed – Get a comfortable mattress that’s either full or queen size. If you have the space and budget, queen size is ideal because it offers plenty of room for you and your partner (or future partner) to sleep comfortably. A king-sized mattress could disrupt energy flow because of the duality of the box springs below.
  • Place your bed in a commanding spot – Your bed shouldn’t be directly aligned with the door, but you should be able to see the doorway while lying in bed. And there must be ample space on each side of the bed. Don’t put your bed up against the wall.
  • Get a headboard – Ideally, you’ll want a wooden headboard without any holes. This symbolizes stability and attracts strength in your relationships.
  • Keep the area under your bed clear – We’ve all been guilty of using this space for storage, but in Feng Shui principles, it’s a big no-no.

6. You’ll feel better in general

As you clear out your space, you have an opportunity to donate the stuff that no longer brings you joy. And giving to others will always make you feel better about yourself and your place in this world.

If you’re on the fence about rearranging your space, hopefully, this post will change your mind. There are so many benefits to rearranging your bedroom that there’s no reason to delay.
