A Review of The Bartered Body by J. R. Lindermuth: Interesting Concept Falls Flat

It’s not many novels that blend together a missing corpse, a lost love and a freak blizzard, but that’s exactly what The Bartered Body by J. R. Lindermuth accomplishes.


It is a whodunit set near the conclusion of the Victorian era.  While I thought I had figured out who the criminal was on page 47, I was proven wrong.


The novel was provided to me by the author, who will be the first writer to appear in my author interview series debuting Jan. 8. 

Set in the fictional Pennsylvania town of Arahpot, situated near a coal mine, in February 1899, the story is told from the first-person point-of-view of Sheriff Sylvester “Syl” Tilghman.  Tilghman is a man with a habit of discussing police business with everyone in town.
