Keeping a neat, tidy, and beautiful home can be a challenge when you have kids, but it can be done. You just have to be smart about how you decorate.

For example, leather furniture is much easier to clean than suede, and pretreated carpets can keep stains at bay. Well, you also have to think about the safety of your children, especially when it comes to blinds.

Here are a few blind choices that are perfect for families with children because they are as safe as they are stylish.

    1. Roman Shades

Few choices are better than roman shades. There are a couple of reasons why they are a top choice among families:

  • The cord hangs behind the shade instead of in front of the shade, so curious hands can’t play with it.
  • The cord is secured to the fabric on the shade, so no dangerous loops can be created, eliminating the strangulation hazard that is present with other blinds.
  • They are extremely lightweight. If the shade were to fall from the window, it is less likely to injure someone than heavier, more traditional blinds.

Roman shades have another benefit—they are extremely decorative. Unlike most shades that can only be purchased in solid colors, roman shades can feature many different patterns.

    1. Cellular Shades

Cellular shades are another option. Their biggest child-friendly feature is the fact that they don’t have any exterior cords at all. Instead, you pull on the bottom of the blinds to lower them.

They come in a wide variety of solid colors and can be ordered with different filtering options. That means you can still let in a little ambient light in a family room or order blackout shades for the bedroom.

Another cool thing about cellular shades is that they can be opened and closed from the top and bottom. You can prevent prying eyes outside your home from spying on your family by opening the top of the shade and keeping the bottom of the shade drawn.

    1. Roller Shades

Roller shades are also an option if you’re looking for blinds that don’t have any cords at all. Because the roll mechanism is at the very top of the shade, all you have to do is pull to lower the shade.

The sky is the limit when it comes to the design of roller shades. They can come in any color or pattern, and they can be ordered in different light filtering thicknesses.

    1. Valance

Blinds can definitely add a little character to your home, but without any other details, they can end up making a room look a little unfinished. Floor-length curtains can help, but they can be dangerous for little hands. The answer is a valance that accents the top of the window without the bulk.

Don’t let the fact that you have children mean you can’t decorate your home the way you want. You can accent any room with blinds that are both decorative and safe, as long as you choose one of the options on this list.
