The other day I was helping my niece find her favorite Barbie Doll. We landed up a cleaning a whole lot of drawers and in the interim founds loads of long lost things. We had almost forgotten that we had them. One such thing was CDs. My crafty mind thought, in this age we don't really use CDs anymore. So why not make something useful and creative from them.
My niece loves the decoupage technique and she actually came up with a cool and easy idea to make coasters from old CDs.
Here's how to:
What you'll need:
(1) CDs
(2) Mod Podge
(3) Colorful paper
(4) Paint brush
(5) Pencil
(6) Scissors
Step 1: Put the CD on the colorful paper and with the help of your pencil trace the shape. Once you have the it traced cut it out.
Step 2: Apply some Mod Podge on the CD and paste the cut out paper on it.
Well you have already modified the your old CDs into a nice colorful object.
Step 3: Next to seal the paper and give it a sheer look, we need to apply 6 - 7 coats of Mod Podge on it. Make sure you do this over a period of few days. Let each coat of Mod Podge dry well before applying the next coat.
Its a good option to stick a little foam patch on the other side of the CD to avoid scratches. But if its just for home purpose you can skip this.
And voila! Its done. A colorful set of coasters are ready to be used. You can even ribbon them up and gift them to friends and family.
