Our feet do a lot of work but, they are the least pampered part of our body. To pamper your feet and keep them strong and flexible, a daily foot massage of a few minutes will be enough. However, if you experience lots of foot pain during the course of the day, you may want to consider doing a foot massage several times a day!
In fact, foot massage has been practiced in different cultures for years to promote health and well-being. Also, it has been a valuable part of complementary and alternative medicine.
I like to teach people a simple gentle pressure foot massage that can be done anytime during the day to help relieve pressure. Most are used to hard pressure massages. When I first explain and show how this massage is done. there are usually many skeptics until they try it for themselves. Putting hard pressure on an already inflamed tissue really defeats the purpose of relieving pain. Why? Because the area is already in pain! Putting more pressure on it will just cause more inflammation!
This technique can also be used on hands. Great for those who have arthritis or experience Carpal Tunnel!
For many who suffer foot pain a simple foot massage can help ease the throbbing pain. You can do a simple foot massage throughout the day to help relieve pressure on your feet as well improve circulation for your legs. Below are foot massage techniques that you can do. No hard pressure, just gentle pressure needs to be applied. As you apply gentle pressure you can actually feel the muscles in your calves move and relax. Gently push your fingers and thumbs on your foot pad. This slight pressure helps to open up the muscles.
You can use essential oils diluted with Peppermint Essential Oil or Black Pepper to greatly reduce pain and inflammation while performing this massage. But, if you don’t have them handy, simply doing the foot massage will provide relief!
Giving yourself a foot massage using the techniques above will greatly improve circulation and relieve pain. If you are one of those people that experience leg cramps or have restless leg syndrome. Doing these foot massages prior to sleeping will help prevent leg cramps. It is not an overnight miracle. But, it is a good way to prevent the occurrence.
