Most homeowners don’t prioritize home improvements. After all who wants to spend money on a roof? Most homeowners don’t even remember that they have a roof most days. When was the last time you thought about your roof?
However, the difference between just having a roof and having a healthy roof can be the difference of thousands of dollars over the course of 10+ years.
Here’s a few reasons to make sure your roof is healthy.
A healthy Roof is more Efficient
A healthy roof will be there to protect you from the bitterly cold winters and blistering hot summer days. Your healthy roof will save you money on energy savings.
Making sure you have up to date insulation is a great way to make sure that you are having cooler temps in the summer and warmer temps in the winter.
Also, a roof is designed to release humidity. If your roof is not properly releasing humidity then you risk rotting wood, which can lead to a damaged roof and expensive repairs.
Avoid Repairs
There are two types of people. One type says things like “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. This particular person is a procrastinator.
The other type of person doesn’t procrastinate. I can tell you that you will save thousands of dollars if you keep up with your roof maintenance. Avoiding issues with your roof until there is an obvious problem leads to bigger problems in the future.
Let’s say for example you ignore your roof and you suspect a small leak. If you put this off for a few years then you’ll wake up to a leaking ceiling that has damaged your drywall ceiling and now you need an entirely new roof. Instead of paying to maintain your roof, you now have a huge expense to fix.
Keeping up with a healthy roof is a great way to save thousands of dollars in future repairs.
Home Value Increases
People don’t typically think about a roof unless they are buying or selling a home. A smart, educated homebuyer knows that a good roof is a positive selling point. In fact a new roof will increase your home’s value buy $13,000.00
Imagine you are looking to buy a home, one of the most expensive purchases of your life, would you spend money on your new home knowing that you’ll most likely have to replace one of the most important and expensive aspects of the home? Nope. I would be you and most people would move on to the next house.
They say that people move seven times in their life on average. Eventually, you will move. Make sure you have a healthy roof on your home so that you can get top dollar when you sell.
A Healthy Roof Protects You
A healthy roof doesn’t just keep you and your family safe and comfortable. A healthy roof also protects your investment.
Would you buy a new car and then never change the oil, never wash the car and never rotate the tires? No you wouldn’t. We know that the only way to get longevity out of our car is to change the oil and keep up with maintenance. The same thing applies to roofs.
Just because we don’t pay attention to our roofs doesn’t mean that maintenance isn’t required. Your roof is always out in the elements, which puts strain on your roof, just like miles on a car.
A roof is a hefty investment. Protect this investment by keeping up with your roof maintenance and hiring a professional to keep up with repairs.
