The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and mandated quarantine have caused an array of issues worldwide, from mental health struggles to behavioral issues to suicidal ideation. Although many places are using lockdowns and quarantines as a means of preventing the spread of COVID-19, there are many other areas of life that are seemingly overlooked, including education, child care, and mental health as a society.

If you are the parent of a teenager who has been ordered to complete their schooling through virtual or remote learning solutions, it is important to understand how they may be affected or changed due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and pandemic quarantines.

As your teenager is growing and vying for more independence each year, it is important to pay close attention to how the quarantines and stark lifestyle changes may be impacting or affecting them in both positive and negative ways.

Increased Isolation

Unfortunately, the most prevalent and obvious issue with continued lockdowns and increasingly strict regulations is the isolation that your teenager and others are likely to experience. Without structure and daily routine, your teenager is much more likely to feel isolated and alone.

Taking the time to assess and evaluate how your teenager is handling the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is essential to help them cope and manage through various stressors they may be experiencing. The more in-tune you remain with your teenager(s), the less likely you are to find yourself experiencing unexpected mood swings, outbursts, or responses to the lockdowns and new restrictions that may have been put into place.
