Botox is an injectable medication and it is used to reduce how your wrinkles appear.  The effects of the injection may last between four to six months of the treatment. Botox can be used for many medical uses like reducing neck spasms or treatment for migraines as well. If it is being used to treat medical problems, it lasts for lesser time which is two to three months.  

After getting the Botox injection, how long the effects will last depends on many factors like:

  • Wrinkle depth
  • Elasticity of your skin
  • Age

In case you want to deal with deep wrinkles using Botox, sometimes the wrinkles may refuse to disappear completely and effects of the injection can wear off faster.  

How repeated use affects the outcome    

If you use Botox many times, then the effects will last longer compared to the previous use. Botox injection will temporarily block your muscles so they will not contract anymore. When the muscle is not being used, it gets smaller and shorter. You will need to get fewer treatments after some time if you want to reach the same results.

How regularly can you get Botox Injections?

You should talk to your surgeon about how many times you should get the injection.   You should avoid having the injections within three months of the first treatment. When the treatment is done frequently, the muscle can become resistant to Botox.  After receiving injections for some time, you may have to wait longer to get the next treatment.

Prevention of new wrinkles and ensuring that your skin is healthy

Wear a sunscreen – You should wear a sunscreen which has at least 30 SPF each day, mostly on the face. This is because the UV rays from the sun will damage the skin and it will cause aging signs faster. You should also remember to wear sunglasses and a hat when out. When you limit your sun exposure, then new wrinkles will not form.

Do not smoke – smoking may increase wrinkles and it can age your skin. Smoking makes your skin look thinner.

Take enough water – drink adequate amount of water each day to ensure that the skin is healthy. This will help with normal cell function, circulation and digestion as well.
