How To Become and Remain Positive As A Single Mother

Being a single mum can be super rewarding but also can be super difficult.


Because you face the exact challenges two-parent families go through, but you’re doing it all alone.

So, you can imagine how easy it can become caught up in the stresses of being a parent that it can overwhelm you.

And before you know it, you’re feeling negative, you’re worried and stressed all the time.

Firstly, don’t worry we all struggle with these feelings. And as a fellow single mum, I can tell you I have been there before.

But what I can also tell you is that you can overcome this. You can flourish in your single parenting journey and have a positive outlook.

And I know this because I am a testament to how one can enjoy being a single mother, deal with stresses of life and remain positive.

So how did I do it?

Good question!

In this blog post I am going to show you exactly how I am learning to remain positive as a single mum.

The benefit of doing these simple strategies is that I am much happier, and I get to enjoy raising my son through each stage of his life.

I have even come to embrace my single parenting journey.

I even get to celebrate all the milestones I have achieved, like going back to work after maternity leave, finally becoming more organised and even having a successful morning routine.

So here we go,

The 11 things I regularly do to remain positive as a single mother.

1. Stay true to yourself

You know exactly who you are. When we become parents people want to mould you into who they think you should be.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned as a single mother is to remember who I am and that I should compromise my beliefs, my values or my personality to please others.

2. Take time out for yourself

This has been a huge lesson for me.

As a single mum I can get so caught up in looking after my son that I forget about myself. While that is not a bad thing, overtime what happens is that I can forget about myself and I ended up feeling overwhelmed.

So now and again I will take time out to recoup and rejuvenate the mind, body and soul.

3. Set your priorities

Now and again I like to write down and remind myself what is important to me.

I set out what I like to do, like spending time with my son and taking him places to discover. Seeing his little face as he gets to learn and do something for the first time is one of my favourite things in the world.

Fitness is super important to me and so I like to make sure I have time to go to the gym. I used to cycle 20 miles a day but ever since I had my son I hardly do anything. That’s when I realised I enjoyed exercising. So now it’s become a priority.

I also like having time with friends, going away on holiday etc.


4. Schedule your week

Most of the times I would feel overwhelmed because I was feeling like I had so much to do in a given week but wasn’t accomplishing anything.

Ever since I set up my weekly schedule I am now more productive and happier because I am more organised and have more time to do the things I like.


5. Accept help from friends and family

Sometimes you can feel like you just need to do it all by yourself because it’s your family.

I know for a fact I used to feel that way. I used to think that this was my doing and that I shouldn’t have to burden others with looking after him unless they offered. BUT I was WRONG!

Ask for help and when its offered don’t turn it down.
