How To Keep Your Home From Looking Like A Disaster, With Kids!

We have all seen this too many times. You walk into your friend's house, and it looks like a tornado came through it. She was always so neat and prepared. What happened? Prepared is the keyword. When deciding to have children, you have to realize that this is just what they are, children. They like to run, jump, dance, and play. They are extremely curious and don't understand the idea behind cleanliness.

This is where preparations come in hand. Ceramic tile floors are wonderful to keep clean in a home, however, there are some pitfalls to this as well, when it comes to children. If they fall, which they normally do, it is going to hurt, especially the head. Although they are not supposed to any glass eating or drinking items, they are bound to find some, drop them, and it shatters everywhere, and I mean everywhere, so be prepared to wear shoes for a month until you find every little piece of glass shard. Here are some suggestions, for the right flooring for you in your home with children.

No matter what flooring you choose, high traffic areas really get worn down with all the use. Why not protect them before that? Much like stair runners, you can get hallway runners to protect that high traffic spot. You will be glad you did, after years of use. Another great idea is to have lots of plastic cups, plates, bowls, and snack bowls, because as previously mentioned, they may fall and break, no matter what type of flooring. There are also wonderful new snack bowls that are spill-proof. Make sure to have more than one handy at all times. They are great for traveling in cars too.

Teaching your children to be neater and cleaner, starts from the very beginning of when they can understand what you are saying, and can somewhat respond. Showing toddlers where to put toys in a nearby basket is a great start. Keep up this gentle reminder of picking up, and not starting with another project until finished with the other. Teach them that they will like being able to find their favorite toy if they put it away. Show them that toys left on the floor can hurt them, and others. Show them the "ouch" approach when you step on them.

One of the most important things you can teach your children is to remain at the table at ALL meals, including snacks. Sit down with them as they eat or drink. It is a great quality time. It also minimizes cleanup. No spills on carpets, or furniture. Schedule regular cleaning times when kids are napping or out with others. It is less stressful, and you can get it all done, without anyone getting into cleaning supplies. Remember, you don't have to have a sparkling house, just a "lived-in" happy family home. Enjoy your time with them, before you know it they are grown up.
