Life as a single mom can be overwhelming, which is why it’s understandable that many of us have an unapproachable charm that surrounds us. It’s not that we’re unfriendly or in our own world. Boy, how I wish I could sometimes retreat to my own world. It’s a combination of life, children, work, chaos and a low tolerance for anything that wastes our valuable time.
It may sound less than welcoming, but it’s true. Single moms are warm and caring by nature. However, we don’t always look the part. We have a lot going on in life and not to mention the constant activity in our heads. It is sometimes difficult to show the happiness we feel on our face. This doesn’t mean we don’t want to be approached, only that we aren’t always good at showing it. Here are a few suggestions to help you relax to show others that you aren’t that wall of resistance they see on the outside.
You have very little time to spare during the day, but you always find time to grab that morning cup of java before work or working out. Take a few minutes to really enjoy the moment. Don’t rush in to grab that cup without ever glancing up at those around you. You would be surprised to know how many people recognize you from the corner café, but you wouldn’t recognize them if they were directly in front of you. There is likely a kind smile awaiting just across the floor and if the coffee is prepared to your liking, you might just flash a smile in return.
You don’t have to put on stilettos and a pencil skirt to leave the house. It doesn’t hurt to throw on a little gloss and maybe a couple strokes of mascara. This literally paints a happy face for anyone, but especially single moms. Take a few seconds to paint your face before going out. It’s the perfect way to soften your look. If you want to do more, do it but with time restraints, this can be done on the wait out the door or once you arrive at the destination. Lips are soft and should be pouted with a nourishing balm or at least glossed up a little. The shape of the eyes enhanced by mascara and become a magnetic force with almost anyone they encounter. Never go out looking like you just woke up and hopped in the car again. Create a charming look that is warm and inviting to those around you.
The idea that single moms are not desirable is a huge misconception. Stop selling yourself short by settling for countless nights alone. There is an ongoing list of things to do and you’re allowing them to pass you by. Take control of your life by getting out during the times you find yourself sitting home alone, with nothing to do and no one to talk too. Many single moms become consumed with taking care of the kids, doing chores, working and repeat. Hit the reset button and stop allowing your single status to dictate your life. Single women add beauty to the world by producing kind acts, beautiful children and consistently giving more of themselves than required. This alone makes us naturally beautiful with a shine that glows from within and completely approachable.
Long nights and early mornings make anyone want to shield their eyes from the sunshine. This is common but doesn’t allow your sunglasses to block the view to your pleasant personality. Walking into the grocery store, pharmacy, mall or similar place? Pull off those sunglasses and take down that messy bun. This is your freshest look and while you feel there may have not been enough effort put into it, others will think you look like a breath of fresh air. You just might be surprised to see how many people actually approach you for your general conversation or even your number.
One of the most attractive things about being a mom is the love that emits because of it. Stepping out with the kids don’t always have to look like a hassle. In fact, most single moms have replaced the struggle with a very effective juggle. We juggle schedules, bath times, feeding times, work and life in general with every other unexpected thing that comes our way. The beauty of it all is that we look darn good doing it. It’s not that we’ve mastered doing these things, but instead, we’ve accepted the fact that we won’t always get everything done on time. We realize that even when we don’t get it done, it will likely be waiting on us tomorrow. Enjoy motherhood, wear it with a small and don’t sweat the small stuff. This attracts everyone around you and emits a standard of strength you never knew existed.
