Moving can not only be stressful it can also be extremely expensive. Think about all of the times you have moved and think back on how much you spent. It was likely well into the thousands of dollars and a real hit to your bank account. If you are like us, you want to save as much money as possible when you move. It basically boils down to doing your research and planning ahead of time. This website gives fresh tips on moving on a budget. And, here are some tips we’ve learned from many moves over the years.

Save Money on Application Fees

When you plan to move the right time to move is key. That might not be a possibility when your lease is up. Summer moving costs the most and because it is typically when families move most because kids are out of school. If you are moving into a rental unit you will want to save as much on application fees as possible. Check around the rental homes or apartments that offer savings on application fees. Also depending on where you work you might be able to save money if your employer is a preferred employer with the apartment complex. You can save up to not only the application fee, but also the service fee as well.

Remember that you must study the places where you want to apply. If you are declined for some reason, you will not get that money back, so save as much as you can at the outset.

Save Money on Movers

Every company gives discounts depending on the time of year. Look around at all of the reputable movers in your area and compare prices for the same service. You might be able to negotiate rates if the company is local. You can also look for coupon codes online for national moving companies. Be sure to plan and keep an eye on any discounts you can get from moving companies.

Save Money on Utilities

Most utilities will charge a deposit before setting up service in your new place or switching service. Make sure to simply pay your bill on time to ensure that you have a great reputation with the company. Also, make sure to stay up on your credit. You can save between $250 - $500 on a deposit if you simply stay on top of your bills.

Save Money on Storage Fees

Storage fees can be exorbitant over the years, but if you look around you can definitely compare prices. Depending on where you live you might have a plethora of storage companies to choose from. Where we live, it seems like a new storage company is being built every month because of the influx of new millennials and families. Many storage companies will give you your first month free, but keep in mind that you will have to pay for insurance and your lock. Look for companies that give one to two months free.

Save on Moving Trucks

There are many moving truck companies that you can choose from and they know that. They want to compete with your business. Three of the largest are U-Haul, Penske, and Budget. Now, you can even rent trucks from Home Depot and Lowes as well as any local truck rental agencies. As with everything check around and get the best price you can. Keep in mind, though, that when you rent a truck they will charge for insurance, the price of the truck as well as a deposit. It might not seem like you have saved money at the beginning, but the deposit will be returned as long as you bring the vehicle back in the same condition as it left.

Once you have finished your move and have saved as much money as you can it is time to celebrate with some wine and a nice dinner. Since you have been dedicated to saving money and doing your research there is no reason to stop there. Click here to learn about some of the best wines anytime of the year as well as during winter.
