How to transform cooking in a pleasurable activity instead of a responsibility

There are people who enjoy cooking tremendously and there are others who simply don’t find it relaxing or enjoyable at all. If you find yourself in the latter situation and you cook simply because you have to feed your family and yourself, then you definitely should read this article which is all about transforming cooking in something fun instead of a chore that consumes some of your time and energy. Cooking can be fun even after a long day at work when all you want to do is get home and do something that de-stresses you. Here are the tips that will save the day:

Set themes for each day of the week

One of the biggest problems with cooking each day has to do with not knowing what you should prepare when you get home. This takes a lot up a lot of room in your thoughts and might stress you out before you even start the process. To get rid of this issue, you should set a dinner theme for each day of the week. This way, you will know exactly what you should cook during that day or at least what sorts of foods you should put on your grocery list. You can get creative with the dishes afterward, but the theme will give you the exact direction you need to avoid spending a lot of time deciding what to cook. For instance, Monday can be entirely dedicated to vegetarian dishes. On Thursdays, you can only put together some sandwiches, while Fridays exclusively include fish dishes. The options are truly unlimited, so find the themes that tickle your sense and respect them religiously. The themes can be changed each week to avoid routine.

Try international dishes

International cuisine is surely much more interesting than cooking the basic traditional dishes in your area. The fact that you will get to cook and then eat something that you have never tried before should make you both excited and nervous about the process. Even though cooking international dishes might not be the easiest, you will definitely have fun trying new ingredients and reading new recipes. Oftentimes, the routine is the one that makes cooking a responsibility instead of a pleasurable activity. If you keep the dishes diverse and stay open to new foods, new ingredients and new ways of cooking, it’s impossible to get bored or frustrated with cooking. Moreover, this might become a precious hobby in your life. From Asian stir-fry to exotic Argentinian dishes, you have all options at your feet.

Add alcohol to the scheme

All delicious dishes should be accompanied by a glass of flavorful alcohol. A glass of wine or a fancy cocktail will be more than welcomed after a long day and a couple hours of cooking. Enjoying your meal wouldn’t be complete without that perfect drink. In other cases, when you simply don’t feel quite hungry and neither does your partner, you should make the cocktails only and enjoy a movie together. If your family is more numerous and you can’t leave the little ones unsupervised, think about some fruity, alcohol-free cocktails that will still be fun to make, yet appropriate for all family members. It is just a way to spice things up and step away from the regular cooking evenings that you perceive as responsibilities.

Music is your best friend

Music is another way to transform cooking in a fun activity. It can get very quiet when you cook alone and there’s nothing to keep you distracted from repetitive tasks such as slicing vegetables or stirring the pot. This is the reason why you should always focus on music. There are special playlists that include cooking music only which is supposed to keep you active, energic and relaxed at the same time. Music has a lot of properties that help people to de-stress and feel better. Combining music and cooking is the best way to make everything more pleasurable. Either play some music on your phone, connect it to an audio system or bring a TV to the kitchen. The latter option is the most recommended option, as you will also be able to play recipe videos whenever you don’t know how to cook a dish and follow the chef in real time.

Bring in some friends or your family

Cooking is not as fun when you do it alone. This is why you might want to ask your significant other, one of your friends or your kids to join you. There are plenty of dishes that involve a lot of small tasks that can be divided, which will shorten the time required for preparing it. Plus, cooking while you are surrounded by people is a great way to socialize and catch up with your loved ones’ recent stories, opinions, feelings and so on. Music can still be a part of the scheme, to create a cozy ambiance that everyone enjoys. After cooking the dishes, everyone can sit together and enjoy the meal. This can be considered a perfect family escapade from the daily routine. Do it at least once a month and you will surely notice a change in how close you and your friends or your family members are.

One-pot dishes for lazy evenings

When you just don’t have the energy for anything else and you would like to get over with the cooking task as fast as possible, one-pot dishes are the option for you. You won’t need to wash a lot of dishes and cutlery after prepping the meal and one-pot dishes are always delicious, regardless of what recipe you choose. This is the best trick for the lazy evenings when all you want to do is snuggle up in your bed and wait for the food to cook in the oven. It involves little to no effort at all, there are dozens of recipes to choose from and it satisfies all tastes.
