Large clouds of smoke were darkening the sky and screams of pain, fear and helplessness were deafening the big apple. It was chaos: Nobody knew what was happening. A cold intense fear spread across the city and on the faces of the people when they realized they were under attack; terrorists had infiltrated the country. That heartbreaking tragedy had awakened the world on September 11, 2001.
Today, I am watching the program, “9/11: Ten Years Later” with my baby. I can’t help but feel a deep sadness for those babies and children who lost their parents on that unforgettable day that changed not only their story, but the history of the nation and the world.
From then on the stories of the victims and their families had been written with tears and blood ink. The tears of children awaiting the arrival of their parents. The tears of parents wanting to kiss their children once more. The tears of faithful friends who want to embrace their friends.
The immense sorrow that has covered the nation will never heal. Ten, twenty, even fifty years can pass and the pain will remain in all our hearts; especially, in the hearts of the families. The question why will also stay imprinted in our minds. There is no answer. There will never be an answer that can explain the evil that can lead people to destroy innocent lives. A horrifying tragedy stained the country with blood.
Every day is 9/11 because each day they miss their loved ones. Everyday they have to learn to live with the grief. There is nothing that can relieve the pain. There is no way to remove from our memories the images of our people and the city burning. There is a hole where the twin towers once stood and a hole in the hearts of those who lost loved ones. That hole can’t be filled up, not with anything. Let’s not forget about them. Let’s keep fighting. The good will triumph. Let’s come together and remember the victims, their families and those who died helping.
God bless America and the heart of each of us to never feel the desire of hurting each other, only serving and loving one another.
