MamaBlogger365 – HOW CAN WE IMPROVE The Experience of MOTHERHOOD by Patrice Moerman/ Posted by Joy Rose for JOIN MAMA

This is from my friend Patrice Moerman who is part of the MAMAPALOOZA Festival in Washington DC. I think so many of us struggle to be 'Good Moms', but sometimes it's hard to combine our passion with our mothering. The MAMABLOGGER365 series examines these issues and attempts to answer the question(s) 'What is a mother' and what are the issues mothers face'. All while raising awareness for the brand new 'Museum Of Motherhood'. -- Would love your input, help, participation and friendship. Thanks Much - Joy Rose

I studied art in college, worked as a commercial artist/illustrator for many years, then had children and my art career drifted away-partly because computers took over and partly because I devoted my time to raising kids. I loved being home with my kids and felt it was a privilege, but I was increasingly unfulfilled as a person. I worked on some paintings, but then writing songs took over and music became my total focus. I can say from my experience that creating a worthwhile work of art produces such an exhilarating feeling that I wonder if it can take the place of the intense feelings produced by motherhood? Today's MamaBlogger365 agrees with you Diana! It IS so important to stay in touch with your own needs and it will make you a better mama. We are so quick to judge, and so sure that any statement about 'self' when it comes to parenting is 'bad'. But, life has shown me - that's just not true! Here's a bit of today's entry at M.O.M. (Museum Of Motherhood) on the subject. AND, Thank YOU so much for sharing.....

I decided to write myself a letter – a forgotten art – as a way of kickstarting myself into the new year.

Dear Me,

I’m so sorry I’ve been so out of touch. I know you know I’ve been busy, and I know you say you understand, but really, I have no excuse for having neglected you most of this past year.

I thought so many times that I wanted to reach out to you and tell you how much I appreciate your kindness and support to me all this time. I just wanted to take the opportunity now – while I’m thinking about it and focusing on YOU – to tell you exactly how much you mean to me. MORE

One of my New Year's resolutions is to be more selfish.  I'm convinced it will make me a better mom. So...I will go to my TKD class, I will play tennis and I will take a bubble bath. As a result I'll hopefully be a well rounded mom who has more to offer her kids.  That's the plan anyway.
