You are the most important person in your child's life. Not only are you his mother but you are also his nurse, maid, teacher, chef, spiritual advisor, secretary, and taxi cab driver. If Mom isn't well who is going to fill those roles?
Your child depends on you and is used to having all of her needs met. I am challenging all Healthy Moms Magazine readers to take responsibility for their own health and wellness first. You need to take a time out from your busy life and put yourself ahead of everything else. It is alright to be a little selfish. In fact it is important for Moms to be selfish every once in a while.
Ask yourself these questions:
Am I eating responsibly? Would I feed my children the same foods that I consume? Am I overeating?
Do I take the time to exercise regularly? Adults should participate in 30 minutes of physical exercised at least three times a week.
Am I getting enough sleep at night? You need 7-9 hours of sleep to recharge your body for the next day's activities.
Am I taking a multivitamin every day? Women of childbearing age need to take vitamins high in folic acid. You do not have to be pregnant or breastfeeding in order to take prenatal vitamins. If your child bearing days are over make sure you are taking a multivitamin especially designed for women.
Moms also need to take care of their spiritual, mental and emotional well being. Schedule time to unwind every week. Go for a brisk walk or run without your children or take a nice long relaxing bath. Take ten minutes out of your day to meditate, pray or read the bible. Studies show that people with a close relationship with a higher power or being are healthier and more confident. Socialize with other moms. We all need adult interaction in order to maintain a healthy balance in our lives.
