There are days when we are too busy to sit down and have a proper breakfast. When we don't have a good breakfast in the morning, our body will not get the food needed to keep our energy level at its best. In case you don't know, one cup of coffee doesn't count as breakfast. I am talking about wholesome, complete meal here.
When we don't feed our body in the morning, we will feel sluggish, slow, probably headache will start to throb at the back of our head. We will start getting hungry before lunch time, and guess what we're looking for to satisfy the hunger? That's right. Those junk snacks!
Let's form a good habit of refueling our body with nutritious food after hibernating all night while we sleep. I found that when I don't have a lot of time to prepare breakfast, smoothie is the answer.
It is so easy to make. To add extra boost of energy, I add oatmeal to this smoothie recipe. The result is a satisfying liquid breakfast that you can prepare, blend, and drink in less than 10 minutes.
Here's the recipe for 3 servings:
Ingredients
1 cup organic rolled oatmeal
1 tbsp ground flaxseed
1 tbsp honey
1 cup organic plant-based milk of your choice
1 cup organic orange juice, or water
1 banana, break into pieces
1 cup organic frozen berries
1 small organic apple, seeded and cut into pieces
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1 tbsp chia seeds
A handful of ice
Direction
- Place oatmeal, ground flaxseed and honey in a mug. Pour hot water until it covers the oatmeal. Stir, and set aside for 5 minutes until the oatmeal is cooked.
- Place milk, fruit juice, banana, frozen berries, apple, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, and ice cubes into a blender in that order. Process until smooth.
- Add in the cooked oatmeal, and blend again until it is very smooth.
- Enjoy.
This is a thick and hearty smoothie. If you like thinner smoothie, add another cup of milk to thin the consistency. You can also pour it in a to-go tumbler, take it to work, and have it as your lunch.
So, no more excuse for not having a breakfast in the morning. Let's start our day right.
