Renovating your home before your baby arrives – here’s how

The moment when you realize that you are going to become a mother is definitely one of the best feelings in the world because you know that the family which you have created together with your partner is going to become a whole. From the moment in which your baby will arrive, you are going to have a little human whom you are going to love, protect, educate, and support until the moment that he or she will become a capable and responsible adult. However, taking care of a newborn might sound like a real challenge because you know how sensitive they are and how much extra care and precaution they need on the everyday basis in order to grow up healthy in a safe and healthy environment. Keep in mind these home renovations when preparing the best environment for your baby who is on the way.

Start renovating early in time

The process of renovating your house before your newborn arrives should start right from the moment when you find out that you are pregnant in order to make sure that you are going to have enough time to finish all the improvements before the day when you are going to bring your baby home from the hospital. Especially in the first months, newborns are incredibly sensitive. So, it would be extremely unhealthy to bring your baby in an environment where there is still dust or the heavy smell of wall paint which is still not dry. Moreover, once you will bring your newborn home, you are going to be incredibly tired and busy with offering him or her proper care which means that you will not have the necessary time and energy to finish the home renovations which you have started.

Stay safe

Another important aspect which you need to be incredibly considerate about is to stay safe and healthy in the process of renovating your home while you are pregnant. As a pregnant woman, you have to make sure that you do not make too much effort or expose yourself to dust, dirt or noxious substances which might affect both your health and your baby’s. During the renovations, it is recommended to move out of your house because the risk of prolonged exposure to paint fumes, thinners, lacquer, and any kind of spraying can be dangerous to fetal development.

Clean properly

First of all, in order to create a safe and healthy environment for your baby, you need to make sure that it is a clean environment. For a clean home, you have to properly clean all rooms, wipe away the dust, clean the windows, and check the walls for any signs of mold which can be extremely dangerous for anyone living inside the house, especially for your baby. Mold can lead to the development of numerous respiratory problems and allergies. Moreover, you have to keep in mind that the process of cleaning your entire home should be done only with cleaning products which do not contain toxic substances or powerful smells.

Consider insulating the house

When they are still little, babies are incredibly sensitive to any condition which for us, adults, would not be any risk. Especially if your baby is going to arrive during the winter months, you definitely have to consider insulating your home in order to ensure a warm and environment to make sure your baby does not get sick because of the cold because a house which is not insulated loses most of the heat throughout walls and roof. Not only that by insulating your home with the help of EcoStar spray foam contractors you are going to make sure that your home is a comfortable environment for your baby and will reduce the risk of the appearance of mold on the walls of your house, but you will also reduce the electricity bills which will help you save money which you can invest in the comfort and well-being of your baby.

Create a baby nursery

Especially in the first months of his or her life, your baby is going to need a room where the environment is suitable for his or her needs to develop healthily, a safe and quiet place where you can organize all the essentials that your newborn needs such as diapers, cleaning products, special bed, clothes, wet tissues, and feeding equipment. A baby nursery will also make it easier for you to stay organized with all the things that your baby needs since you will know for sure that you have everything you need for taking care of your baby in just one room, instead of being spread all over the house.

Create a laundry room

Having a baby means that you are going to have a lot of laundry to do. If you already have a laundry room. you should consider updating it with more place to dry the clothes which you are going to wash. However, if your home does not have a laundry room, you absolutely need to create one because otherwise, you are going to feel overwhelmed by the numerous clothes your newborn will soil daily.

Cover the floors

When it comes to renovating their houses, no one really pays attention to the floors because they are not a priority. However, when you are about to have a baby, you need to be aware that you will not even realize when your baby will grow up to crawl around the house from a room to another, lying or playing on the ground. You also need to make sure that you fix any broken floorboards and tiles. Clean all the carpets properly to eliminate all the dust or dirt which might be harmful to your baby. also, you should consider floor mats and soft area rugs with plenty of padding underneath in the room where you and your baby are going to spend most of the time such as the nursery or living room.

Safety improvements

As I have mentioned before, as a parent, you barely realize how time flies until the moment when your baby starts crawling, walking or running around the house. So, you need to take all the safety measures while renovating the rouse such as anchoring the large furniture items on the walls, cover the sharp corners of the furniture items, and install baby-proofing electrical outlet plug covers.
