Ideas For Single Moms To Practice Self-care

As a single mom, it can be hard to find time for self-care. However, if you do not try to fit it into your routine, you will probably feel stressed out soon enough. Self-care can be different for every mom out there- sometimes it is bath bombs and lotion, other times self-care is relaxing with a good book and your favorite cup of tea.

You can even practice these short routines during your busiest days if you can find a small chunk of free time. These are some ideas for single moms to practice self-care at home.

Take a Walk

If you have 15 minutes of free time, you may be able to walk around the block. Walking is a simple way to get some exercise time in and clear your head, helping you de-stress. We recommend taking a short walk a few times a week while your kids are participating in an activity.

Maybe while they are preoccupied with a sports practice, club meeting, or an online class, you can take a few minutes for yourself to get some fresh air. You will feel much more energetic afterward.

Read a New Book

Libraries are fun for kids and adults. If you can not go in person, online libraries or ebooks are available. Or, maybe you have that one book you bought ages ago that you keep saying you will read.

Settling into bed with a warm cup of tea and a fun book is a great way for anyone to relax. If you often feel stressed out before bed, this activity can be a great way to wind down and get ready for sleep.

Use a New Recipe

Cooking or baking something new is a fun experience for many parents. Plus, if your kids are old enough, they can get in on the fun too! Kids love baking, and it can be a wonderful learning opportunity for them.

There are so many recipes online; we are sure you can find something you have not made before. Playing your favorite songs can also help you destress and have a fun time while you experiment with new foods.

Go on a Solo Date

If you need some alone time, a solo date would be the perfect option. While your kids are visiting their friends or staying home with a babysitter, you could go on a date by yourself. Doing so gives you the chance to boost your confidence and fall in love with yourself.

You could do anything you wanted- visit a coffee shop, go to see a movie, go to your favorite restaurant, visit a museum, go to the beach, or more! There are plenty of options here.

Afterward, you will feel refreshed and more in touch with yourself.

Grow Plants

Greenery at home makes everything feel fresher. Plus, taking the time to grow your own plants is relaxing and gives you a sense of accomplishment. You could grow small succulents, flowers, hanging plants, herbs, or even vegetables in the backyard. If you are limited on space, window boxes are a good choice.

Start a Journal

Getting your thoughts down on paper is a wonderful form of self-care. Coming up with poems or your own stories can also be a wonderful creative outlet for parents. Your journal can be about anything you want!

Take a Relaxing Bath

Finding time to take a relaxing bath is a great way to destress. Bath bombs or bubble bath solutions can help make the experience so much better. You could simply chill in the warm water or use a hair or face mask while you soak. No matter what you decide to do, you will feel less tense when you get out of the tub.

Go to Bed Early

As a single mom, you likely have very busy days. If it feels like you never can catch up on sleep, going to be an hour early can make a huge difference. You will want to limit distractions, such as your cell phone so that you can fall asleep easily.

Soft blankets and pillows, lotions, oils, and relaxing music would be perfect to use during this time as well.

Short Meditations

If you are having a very stressful day, meditating can help relieve the pressure you feel. All you need is five minutes. Set a timer on your phone and take some deep breaths. If you want guidance, you can find plenty of short, free videos on YouTube to assist you.
