The Problem with DIY Dental Veneers

The makers of clip-on dental veneers sure are on a roll, aren’t they? Their advertisements are plastered all over the Internet – on social media, in blogs, in Google ads and in “suggested content” on the bottom of practically every news site. The ads promising perfectly white, straight teeth are hard to escape, and you probably clicked on a couple of them by now. Odds are, you may even have wondered if DIY veneers are right for you.

The makers of clip-on dental veneers like to feature amazing videos depicting incredible smile transformations – from the snaggle-toothed troll who can’t get the girl to Fabio and all the game that comes with it. This makeover can happen in seconds, they claim, and best of all, for only a fraction of the cost of real dental veneers and without a single trip to the dentist! Just make a mold of your teeth in the comfort of your home, send it to the lab and – voilà! – you’ll receive your perfect smile in the mail.

Hold on a sec…rewind. You do remember the old saying that “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”, right? Case in point.

Why Clip-on Veneers Are a Bad Idea

To find out what type of results you can really expect from DIY veneers, check out the many honest video reviews online, showing real customers who aren’t paid by the company to give glowing testimonials.

Some of the issues wearers of clip-on veneers report:

  • Lisping
  • Chunky material
  • Discomfort and need to suck saliva entering the space between natural teeth and clip-on
  • Afraid of breaking them
  • Difficulty drinking
  • Risk of breakage when eating
  • Self-consciousness
  • Obviously fake appearance
  • “Duckface” – protruding lips

Even worse is the idea that clip-on veneers are a solution for poor dental health. Some folks like to use clip-on to hide decayed or broken teeth. This type of cover-up does not address the underlying problem and can, in fact, make the issue worse by allowing the clip-on wearer to continuously ignore the state of his or her natural teeth.

A better idea: Go see the dentist, restore your teeth to health, and invest in your smile with real dental veneers!

The Advantages of Professional Dental Veneers

Dental veneers professionally installed by an actual dentist feature none of the undesirable side effects of DIY veneers mentioned above. Prior to securing your dental veneers, the dentist will remove a thin layer of your tooth enamel to accommodate the veneers – no “duck face” here, no chunky feeling, and no awkward lisping!

Professional veneers blow clip-on out of the water on every level:

  • Made of ultra-thin porcelain
  • Precise custom-fitting
  • Color matching to blend with your natural teeth
  • Non-removable
  • Last many years with proper care
  • Ability to eat and drink without embarrassment
  • Natural appearance
  • Feel like your natural teeth
  • A tight fit means no need to suck saliva

Worried you can’t afford professional veneers? Some dentists offer dental financing and payment plans to fit your budget. Yes, you can smile now and pay later! Invest your money wisely and smile with confidence…talk to your dentist about professional veneers.
