Tips for Filling 5 Years as a Stay at Home Mom

Once upon a time it was the norm for moms to stay at home with young children, but those days are long in the past. In fact, few moms have been afforded the luxury of staying at home because that second paycheck is vital to the support of the family. Now it is rare that a mother can actually leave the workplace while she has kids at home. When the family decides to sacrifice that extra income for the sake of the children, it can be a painful experience financially as well as emotionally, especially for a career oriented woman. If you have decided to stay at home with your children until they are ready for kindergarten, there is no reason to believe this can’t be a lucrative period in your life.

Viewing Those Years from a Different Perspective

Instead of looking at those years as a financial loss, why not consider them as an investment in your future? There are things you can do as a stay at home mom to bring money in while working from home. Have you stopped to consider that you’re giving your children a rock solid foundation before sending them off to the world of elementary education? It is widely believed that children who have a strong connection with mom do better in later life. Instead of looking at these five years as a financial loss, you could consider them an investment in your child’s future.

Making the Most of Those Years

There are actually quite a few things you can do with your own personal life while staying at home. This is a great opportunity to advance your career by continuing your education. With so many online courses, there is no reason you can’t even get a Masters in Social Work while raising children. Some universities offer a complete curriculum through their distance education program. Rutgers University is not only one of the original colleges established prior to the American Revolution but they are now one of the ground-breaking colleges that have offered a wide range of degrees you can study for from home. An online social work Master’s degree is just one of many you can complete from home while your kids are growing up.

So then, you don’t need to think of those years as a sacrifice you are making to stay at home with the kids. If you pursue an MSW online degree you are investing in both your own and your children’s future. Your kids grow up with a strong sense of self-worth having spent this time with mom and you are ready to develop your career when you do return to work in the future. Both mom and baby come out winners and it’s all because you decided to invest time and love into your child’ formative years
