During Hurricane Katrina, I was living in Texas with my three daughters while my husband was in New Orleans working at the local CBS affiliate. After two and a half months of living on the freeway, being everything to everybody and trying to comfort my kids while their dad was away, I couldn't imagine how so many women did this alone on a regular basis.
