First of all, I'm so happy to meet you. Here is a little bit about my life up till now: I worked for 15 years as an Early Childhood educator in preschool, daycare, and as an aid. I've been blessed to live most of my life on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I currently live in the gorgeous little town of Port Alberni with my crazy little family. I am a single mom with two awesome kids, Cameron and Jenna. Cameron is eight years old and Jenna just graduated. She wants to be an archaeologist and specialize in ancient languages.
I am a lover of shenanigans and pranks and often pull off one or two a week, just because I can. I adore all that is wild and hilarious. My home is full of laughter, and, if each day I can find a way to make just one person laugh so hard they have an accident, it was a day well spent. So I spend most of my time parenting, creating hijinks, or disappearing into my own mind and journeying through other realms. I hope when you read my books you laugh, you cry and then you step out of your box for a minute and notice the magic that is absolutely everywhere.
On January 28, 2009, I traveled back to my childhood in a miraculous dream. I then woke up in the middle of the night and typed a whole children's book into my cell phone. It was a collection of first moments..being four years old and holding a baby chick. Then running on the beach and playing in the sand. I could remember so clearly how it all felt - I was living it all over again. Another time, I was on the B.C Ferries thinking about my son Cameron and the shark boots he had worn for years and the shenanigans he always blamed on the boots. It was the boots that wanted to roll in the mud or jump in the puddle. (Sharks apparently love the mud. I didn't know this little tidbit of information until I had a son.) As a result, I published my first children's book, Shark Boots, in May of 2010. My second book, Being Four, followed in 2011. I continued to write many more funny and strange children's books after those first two.
My life changed very suddenly. I was diagnosed with M.S. I know that my children, and writing have helped me see the way to the other side of each and every M.S mountain. That damn pesky mountain that keeps appearing, just when I think I've climbed it. Isn't that the story of everyone's life though? Why would you endeavor to climb all of those giant mountains, only to have another one appear? How can you keep fighting forever and still retain some semblance of sanity? I think those feelings were what caused the nightmare that started me on The Children of Ankh series.
I have been eating, sleeping, and breathing this series, since that very first sleepless night. When I awoke from the nightmare, I had a creepy song continuously playing in my head. I had to immediately write down all of the details of the dream. The song still plays sometimes in my head. The creepy lullaby. In the beginning it was upsetting, but now it's almost beautiful.

Sweet Sleep, the first in my YA Paranormal Fantasy series, The Children of Ankh, coming August 7th 2014 from Corvallis Press. I can't wait to share these characters with the world.
What is your blogging philosophy?
Most of my blogging is now about the series I'm writing.
The last poem I wrote was about Boogers.
I have been blogging since...
Four or five years now

Freckles On His Nose and Wiggles in his Toes

A little boy with freckles on his nose and wiggles in his toes sat patiently behind his mother in his booster seat as she started the car.
The little boy said absolutely nothing as his mother turned around to look at him. His mother met his crinkled up smiling eyes with her own and…
