Share a little something about yourself with other moms.
I love Jesus, my family, food, and chocolate (in that order). I am a worship leader, social worker, adoptive/foster/birth mom, wife, and love of all cuisine.... did I mention the chocolate? I write as my own personal therapy, but I'd love to make a living at it so I can be home for my kiddos more as they're begging me to be! Help spread the word about my site and make 4 little ones very happy :)
What is your blogging philosophy?
I started blogging the week I got married. I thought it would be nice to blog the full first year, you know, to cherish those memories and share them with my family and friends. Little did I know, it was going to be my greatest coping skill for the craziness that comes with marriage! I found writing to be a fantastic way to reframe an ugly marital spat into a humorous event, allowing me to smile at the situation by the end of the post. And now, I am honored to share my struggles and joys of fostering, adopting, birthing, and raising 4 beautiful children. It's my hope that others gain laughter and new ways to see their own frustrating life situation through my writing. Because I love to write! PS, look for me on Facebook - "Mommyhood-Shivonne Costa"

The Reason I Write

Posted on July 28, 2015 at 12:13pm 1 Comment

A few weeks ago, I was perusing the Twitter world and stumbled upon an adoptive mother's profile. It read this:

“Hate my adopted kids. Please Help. Need hope.”

That was it. That was her profile. Out of all the things she could've said about herself, this was what she chose. Not that she's a coffee-drinker, that she loves yoga, that she has 3 kids and a collie. Not that she is an adoptive mom looking for other adoptive moms to connect with. Not…

A Farewell To Nursing

Posted on July 1, 2015 at 7:25pm 2 Comments

After 13-and-a-half months, I’ve finished nursing my little guy. I have to say, even writing the title of this article, I’m sure there will be some that will roll their eyes and say to themselves, Good grief, is she hurting for material THAT badly that she’s writing a good-bye piece to breastfeeding?? And to those people I have this to say….

Before having children, I had ideas of what motherhood would look like. I would do the right things, say…

10 Reasons You Should Take Your Kids to an Amusement Park This Summer

Posted on June 15, 2015 at 9:32pm 1 Comment

When weighing the pros and cons of yet another costly summer activity, we as adults tend to focus on the mature things. How much is this gonna cost? Can I get the time off work? Is it educational for the kids? Will this provide too much structure, not enough structure, build relationships, promote independence, increase physical exercise, allow for creativity, encourage teamwork, stimulate without over-stimulating, etc., etc., etc.

            But, what if we…

How My Kids See Their Mama

Posted on June 8, 2015 at 4:12pm 1 Comment

I tend not to jump on the Mommy bandwagon for things.... but for every thing there is a season. And it's my turn to jump. There is a Facebook post that's gone viral that has you ask your child/children questions about you as their Mom while you record their answers. Naturally, these answers are chocked full of adorableness and grossly inaccurate information. So it only made sense that I interviewed my own children (the ones that can talk, that is), because they are both adorable and…
